Imaging and Genetic Biomarkers of Alzheimer's Disease

Principal Investigator: Liana Apostolova (IU School of Medicine)

This study, from Apostolova's lab, uses advanced statistics, machine learning, and network science approaches on comprehensive, multimodal data acquired from subjects in pre-symptomatic and early-symptomatic stages of disease. These techniques are crucial in order to identify promising imaging and genetic biomarkers that can accurately assess an individual’s risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease and discover new critical disease-related pathways. Improved understanding of the molecular and genetic triggers of Alzheimer’s disease will bring research closer to genomic-based interventions and personalized risk assessment.

IUNI research scientists Xiaoran Yan and Alice Patania are involved in applying new analytical approaches to this complex data.
