Franco Pestilli
Franco Pestilli is Associate Professor in Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington. He is also associated with the Indiana University programs in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience and holds adjunct positions at the Indiana University School of Optometry, Department of Computer Science, and Intelligent Systems Engineering.
Dr. Pestilli joined Indiana University in 2015 from Stanford University. Prior to that he trained at New York University, Columbia University, and the Riken Brain Science Institute in Japan. Dr. Pestilli holds a PhD from New York University and a B.A. from the University of Rome La Sapienza. He directs a laboratory of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, with research interest spanning human perception and cognition, brain plasticity, and neurodegeneration. Dr. Pestilli is Principal Investigator of the Midwest Big Data Hub and the director of the Advanced Computational Neuroscience Network and the open science, cloud-computing platform brainlife.io, all of which are funded projects of the National Science Foundation. Dr. Pestilli is the author of more than 40 scientific publications and his scientific work spans multiple fields of neuroscience with contributions to methods for mapping brain networks, understanding human brain neuroanatomy and connectivity, as well as to clarifying fundamental aspects of human visual perception and cognition.
Dr. Pestilli is elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and Psychonomics Society and has received both the Janet Taylor Spence Award for Transformative Early Career Achievements by the Association for Psychological Science as well as the Easy Career Travel Award from the Japanese Neuroscience Society. Dr. Pestilli's scientific projects have been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Institute, the Association for Psychological Science, the Indiana University Emergent Areas fo Research, Pervasive Technology Institute, and Microsoft Research. He is an editorial board member for Nature Scientific Data, Nature Scientific Reports, and Brain Structure and Function.
