Sofia is a a Postdoctoral Researcher at Indiana University Bloomington, in the Center for Social and BioMedical Complexity and a Fellow at IU Network Science Institute (IUNI). She received her PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering under the supervision of Alexandre P. Francisco and Francisco C. Santos in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal).
Sofia has been a junior researcher at IDSS group/INESC-ID since 2010 and a member of the ATP group since 2016 and was also a collaborator at LASIGE from September 2018 to August 2019. She is also a member of the advisory board of yrCSS, a member of the Local Committee and the Social Media Chair of The 8th International Conference on Complex Networks and Their Applications and one of the organisers of the Workshop Complexity72h 2020.
Sofia's research interests include:
- Graph Theory/Algorithms on Graphs
- Network Science/Complex Systems
- Computational Social Sciences
- Computational Biology
- Evolutionary Game Theory/Modelling Human Behaviour
Her research work is focused on the development of computational models and simulation frameworks to understand collective dynamics, specifically in what concerns the evolution of biological and social systems.
